Yes you should change your cars engine oil. Not more than 10000klm or 6000miles or 6mth between oil and filter changes while its having its oil changed you should check the transmission and other drive train components along wit suspension tyres and brakes. Do this and your car won't live to see 100,000 miles. Change your oil every 3,000 miles. I change mine every 2,000

and he must driving a camel not cars you need regular maintenance and oil comes in a package check your miles so they can do the proper maintenance of your car because there is minor and major maintenance and there are conditions that have a great affect on your car like dusty conditions the way you drive or using too much load
engine oils viscosity breaks down over time from the heat of the engine, making it less effective. Unless you want a blown head Gasket or a seized engine, I would change it every 3000 miles, as recommended
Yes, you should. It keeps the engine clean, lets the pistons slide without damage, and extends the life of the car. Most manufacturers recommend every 3000 miles but I usually do it about every 4-5000 miles for my diesel truck. I do mine at Wal-Mart because they open early and are VERY reasonably priced. However, you should check your new oil filter and make sure it is screwed on tight. They tend to have a problem with that at the one I go to. Hope this helps!!

That engineer must be in engine overhaul business are selling cars. so you will be in to give him more$$$ I recomend chaging every 2,500 - 3,000 miles Some car manufacturers say every 5,000 miles in the manual which is probably safe but this also depemds on the abuse your engine gets , rather its all highway miles, no dirt roads, no dusty areas, etc.. then 5,000 may be ok. I personally never try to go over 3,000 i have at times but its not good habbit, I have rebuilt and built several engines and trust me clean oil and filters . is a cheap unexpensive way to maintain your car engine for a long time ahead, its nothing noiw days on some engines to run them over 200,000 miles but you must do the shceduled mainatnce checks etc.. follow your cars owners manual , they give you a warranty of so mnay miles well try going to dealership saying sir my engine is shot and by the way i never changed my oil see if your warranty is any good anymore . just spend the 20 bucks or even less change your oil and filter every 3,000 at least clean your airfilter every 3,000 change it or at least clean /inspoect every 6-10,000 miles. all this little stuff keeps your engine clean and happy, this not only prolongs your engines life but it keeps gas mileage up and that along in my household is enuff.
You should do what the manufacturer of the make and model suggests, some auto's use standard oils, some use synthetic blends, some use full synthetic from the factory. Some vehicles, such as Ferrari use full synthetic oils and more than one filter, usually 3 filters, and they recommend 100,000 before an oil change is needed. So look it up for your car, you can even buy the service manuals at the dealership if you don't own one.
Every 3K in addition think about adding an additive at 1.5K between changes. Small $$'s and will keep your car running longer. Take it to one of those places that change your oil at the same time they fill up your tires/top off fluids %26amp; vacume your interior

Synthetic all the way! Worth the cost because it stays cleaner longer, doesn't get crap in your engine, doesn't break down viscally (not nearly as much as regular oil) therefore doesn't need to be changed quite as often, endures higher temps and varied engine conditions. Lessens the need to rape the earth of it's crude. All around good stuff.

No its not optional if you run with the same oil too long it will mess with the pistons and other various parts do to friction due to lack of lubrication. i would say around 5000 miles is a safe range for a oil change.
One major reason to change besides the dirt and carbon that is sponged in by the oil and wicked by the filter is to remove the amassing buildup of this stuff like so much removing a vacuum bag fm the cleaner.

hi,i would like to answer this because of all the answers you got, NOT ONE mentioned what happens to the oil filter. oil filters needs to be replaced also during an oil change.its a must as a rule of thumb. all oil filters except one,,, becomes restricted after 2000 miles and becomes more restricted at 5000miles, and affects the oil pressure. would you want a lower oil pressure at high speeds or any speeds.? this is the main reason why we need to replace oil and oil filter. most of them recommends at 3000miles. but for my own i replace it at 5000miles so its easy to remember and u dont have to use math to figure when to do next oil change. most oil filter manufacturer dont mention the low pressure pass data on their product EXCEPT ONE. and u know who. its the one that is six times more expensive. but most dont need to know this because they replace it anyway at 3000 miles .

The engineer is correct, if referring to synthetic oil. If you don't buy the best synthetic oil(more expensive)and go cheap - fossil oil, you will get all those bad things as the ';experts'; pointed out, as the oil will retain carbon and sulfur deposits and loose its lubricating properties. However, synthetic oil does not contaminate in the same manner, and I've done my oil changes (on new vehicle) at 1'700kms to change to full synthetic (Mobil one - at 3 times the cost of normal oil) again at 50'000kms 31'250miles, on 100'000kms 62'500miles and again on 150'000kms 93'750miles. I was then living in South Africa were the fuel quality isn't as good as in the Northern Americas or Europe. The oil might look dirty, though it still lubricates as it should, and I only changed the Filter and topped up halfway through each cycle.

Those engineers have a boatload of book learning and no practical experience. The oil itself does not break down but the additives do and one of the jobs of oil is to gather the contaminants from combustion and condensation and keep it in suspension so it doesn't abrade or corrode the metals that would otherwise be rubbing against each other. It used to be that we changed oil every 2000 miles but oil is getting better all the time. OK, it isn't the oil that is getting better but the additives. We are using the same oil now as then, but with better additives. That combined with better metallurgy means that we can go further between oil changes now. 3000 to 5000 miles depending on the kind of service you are submitting your vehicle to. And change the filter. Don't be cheep on this one. Changing your oil is cheep compared to changing your engine, or buying a new car.
