my vehicle was a disabled carrier for my father,he sadly passed away last month.i intend to keep the vehicle for my own use and need to change the tax class to private.

can i let the disc run down to may or do i have to change it now?

and how do i go about this?Changing car tax class disabled to private?
Return the V5 to the dval with the taxation class underlined and an explanatory letter to accompany it.Changing car tax class disabled to private?
Notify the dvla of the change in class and they will sort it from there, also advising what you need to do if anything.

Looks like you re-tax the car as normal, just don't use the disabled exemption certificate. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Own
When I bought my car it had previously been registered for disabled tax %26amp; for some reason we could't just buy a tax disc as normal but had to go to the Shrewsbury office. I can't remember why exactly but give the DVLA a call. I think you have to do it straight away - not wait for the tax to run out - but you will be able to get a refund on any tax that it still left.
you have to go to your nearest dvla office, there are loads of them around and take your documents with you and you will be able to get the vehicle taxed as plg again and they will send your log book away for changing and tax disc will be given immediately if you take money for it. you cannot do this over phone, post or at the post office counter
